Review – Thor #1

Writer: Jason Aarondetail
Artist: Russell Dauterman
Cover Artist: Russell Dauterman
Published by: Marvel Comics

The long await debut of the new female Thor has finally hit the scene, When Marvel first announced that writer Russell Dauterman’s version of Thor would be a woman many fans were outraged, but as time went by people wanted to see just who would take on the mantle of Thor and if she would have any connection to the original Odin son, and in this first issue we get a pretty good idea that.

The issues starts in the Norwegian Sea with a Roxxon deep water excavation team deal with an attack from the Frost Giants, meanwhile on the moon all of Asgards warriors including the great Odin himself are seen standing around a broken down Thor as he stares at Mjölnir, it seems as if Mjölnir has deemed Thor unworthy of using its power, the most intriguing and surprising thing is how lost and broken Thor looks in one panel we see him standing over Mjölnir begging for it to move, Freyja then informs Odin and the others that The watcher told her about a battle the Avengers had and at one point Thor was separated from the others and during that time something was said to him which made the current situation, Odin on the other hand isn’t buying it and he forcefully tries to pick up the hammer but was denied also. When word of the frost Giant’s attack on Midgard hits Odin, he and Frigga have a disagreement about whether or not they should help out. Thor on the other hand leaves for Midgard stating he is going home.

Back on Earth Malekith the Accursed is there as the frost giants invade Roxxon, It seems that a key treasure/power source was lost in the area Roxxon was excavating, Thor arrives in time to stop Malekith from causing more havoc. Malekith notices Thor’s decease in strength due to him not having Mjölnir, Malekith pushes Thor back while also taunting him about his missing hammer, over powered Thor is beaten

The issue ends with Malekith locating the treasure/power source the frost giants were looking for, we then see a defeated Thor falling to deep sea, the last page we see a shadowy figure walk up to Mjölnir and as they begin to pick it up the phrase of the hammer changes “Whosoever holds this hammer, if She be worthy, shall possess the power of Thor”.

Final Thoughs: This is relative straight forward story with a cliff hanger at the end of it, there wasn’t anything in particular that capture my interest besides the obvious. However I did enjoy the moments with Odin and Frigga, with Odin back as the All-father Frigga’s role as the All-Mother and ruler of Asgard is no longer need but throughout the issue she still acts as if she is, this causes Odin to remind her of role. In the upcoming issues hopefully we will have answers to some question readers my ask, such as, what really happened to Thor in that battle with Avengers?, What exactly are the Frost Giants and Malekith looking for? and finally, who is the mysterious woman that picked up the hammer?.

WWE 2K15 MyCareer details and screens emerge

While a little late, we have high resolution images to compliment the news for MyCareer on WWE 2K15 with stars like Adrian Neville, Sami Zayn, HHH, Bray Wyatt and more.

For those who missed the announcement, check out the details direct from 2K on the new mode and then scroll down a bit more for the huge gallery.

Players will begin MyCareer by taking characters they create in WWE 2K15’s Creation Suite to the WWE Performance Center in Orlando, Florida. While there, they will be trained by former WWESuperstar and WWE Performance Center head coach Bill DeMott, as they navigate a series of objectives. Successful completion of the objectives will lead players to compete at NXT, WWE’s developmental system for rising young talent, where they will continue with matches and new objectives. At NXT, they will encounter a roster of new and future WWE Superstars, including Rusev, Bo Dallas, Adrian Neville, Sami Zayn and Corey Graves, all of whom will also be available as playable characters.

After mastering their skills in NXT, players will move up to WWE’s main roster, where General Manager Vickie Guerrero will set matches and keep her Superstars focused through ultimatums designed to gain bonus rewards. Players will develop alliances and rivalries while competing to win spots on WWE pay-per-view events and flagship shows like Monday Night Raw® and SmackDown®. They will also compete for the United States Championship and Intercontinental Championship. Successful players will make their way to SummerSlam® and WrestleMania®, where the WWE World Heavyweight Championship will be on the line as the top MyCareer prize.

Decisions made throughout the WWE developmental process, including alliances, rivalries and social media interactions, will impact player personality traits and crowd reactions. As players progress throughout the mode, they will also have opportunities in-game to upgrade their attributes, acquire new abilities, skills and moves, earn new clothing and unlock managers. These decisions, along with a player’s win/loss record, will lead to multiple branching storylines, surprises, twists and turns that offer significant replay value to explore different career paths.

MyCareer is a mode beloved by our NBA 2K fans and is a perfect fit for WWE 2K15,” said Greg Thomas, President at Visual Concepts. “We are eager to deliver a comprehensive career mode experience for the first time and consider its inclusion a critical step forward for the franchise.”

Black Sails Season 2 takes to the Sea on Starz

The seas are about to get a bit rougher as Black Sails prepares to embark on its second 10 episode season in 2015 on Starz. The show will debut on Saturday January 24th at 9PM ET/PT with Captain Flint and his men at the limit as they sit stranded with Spanish soldiers blocking them from their Urca gold. Their betrayals no longer a secret and an alliance being the one thing that can help them avoid certain defeat. It’s certainly going to be a heavy dose of narrative given everything that’s up in the air so we’ll just need to keep an eye out for the teasers to see how it might all pan out.

From Starz:

“Black Sails” season one set a STARZ viewership record for a debuting STARZ Original series during its opening weekend in January 2014, established an average of 5.3 million viewers per episode*, and is distributed in about 130 countries and territories worldwide. Starz also released a first look teaser image from season two, inspired by the Emmy®-nominated main title design.

Season two begins where we left off—The Walrus crew is stranded, with an army of Spanish soldiers standing between them and the precious Urca gold. And with their crimes against their brethren no longer a secret, Flint (Toby Stephens) and Silver (Luke Arnold) must join forces in a desperate bid for survival. Meanwhile, Eleanor Guthrie (Hannah New) struggles to maintain her grip on Nassau, as a new breed of pirate arrives in the form of Ned Low (Tadgh Murphy), a man for whom violence isn’t just a tool … it’s a pastime. As blood is spilled, and tensions mount, Charles Vane (Zach McGowan) must decide which he values more: Eleanor’s life, or the respect of his men. And unbeknownst to all of them, a prize of immeasurable value has already been smuggled onto the island … one whose discovery will alter the very landscape of their world, and force everyone in Nassau toward the ultimate judgment: are they men, or are they monsters?
