ECCC: Elfquest gets a gallery Edition

EQGED CVR SOL r2

In 1978, Wendy and Richard Pini first published what would become one of the most revered classic-fantasy epics in comics. Today, ElfQuest continues to capture the imaginations of readers of all ages, as Chief Cutter and his Wolfriders battle savage humans, forge lasting alliances, and discover strange new lands in this ultimate fantasy adventure!

Dark Horse proudly presents ElfQuest: The Original Quest Gallery Edition, a one-of-a-kind edition, which collects the first five issues of The Original Quest (“Fire and Flight”) in their gorgeous original glory. Each page is carefully scanned from Wendy Pini’s original art to capture every stroke and detail. At 12 1/8″ by 17″, it’s as close to holding Pini’s original art as a fan can get.

For readers looking to explore ElfQuest for the first time, there’s no better place than The Complete ElfQuest Volume 1: The Original Quest! This edition boasts 720 pages, collecting the entirety of what is now known as The Original Quest in stunning black and white, including an extensive gallery of concept art, pinups, and covers, with commentary from series creators Wendy and Richard Pini.

ElfQuest: The Original Quest Gallery Edition is in comic shops October 8 and bookstores October 21.

The Complete ElfQuest Volume 1: The Original Quest is on sale August 6. Preorder your copy today!

Praise for Wendy and Richard Pini’s ElfQuest:

Review – Conan The Barbarian:The Song Of Belit – Part Three & Four

Writer:Brian Wood
Artist: Leandro Fernand
Colorist: Dave Stewart
Cover Artist: Massimo Carnevale

In the Song of Belit part three we see Conan change back to his old 22890self only this time with a broken heart, After Belit and the crews death Conan is left only on a mysterious and dangerous land, and in part three we see him cut and slash his way through a pack of Hellhound like creatures. From the first page to the last Conan is fighting for his life, the action is non stop. finally we see him make it out alive and back to sea.
Part 4 we see that Conan has landed at the Black Kingdom, we finally see how the death of Belit has effected him. known as the Ghost by the local’s Conan now spends his time drinking and partaking in meaningless gladiator fights, when the local Tavern owner Thessy confronts him about the man he has become Conan finally picks up the pieces of his broken heart and decides to move on as changed man no longer living just for treasure.

22891Brian Woods Conan run has been one that should be praised, we have seen Conan as a character growth and maturation throughout his run, things like doubt,Fear, love,Devotion, happiness all these at one point was shown, and for that i give Woods much credit. The artwork also deserves its praise, artist’s Leandro Fernand, Riccardo Burchielli, Paul Azaceta, Davide Gianfelice, Becky Cloonan, James Harren made the world of Brian Woods version Conan to life, and for the most part the work was always consistent and every artist kept the art style similar to a degree, Don’t forget Massimo Carnevale amazing cover art as well

I enjoy Brian woods work and sad that its come to an end, hopefully the next writer will put the time and effect woods has done for his run.

Review – King Conan: Hour Of The Dragon Part 5

Writer: Timothy Truman
Artist: Tomas Giorello
Colorist: Jose Villarrubia
Cover Artist: Gerald Parel
Published by: Dark Horse Comics

22195

Gerald Parel Cover

In my last review of King Conan: Hour of the Dragon Part 5, I said that Truman’s interpitation was starting to look real promising, And I was right on that assumption, Hour of  the Dragon Part 5 is outstanding. Truman and Giorello should be praise for the work they are doing with Robert E. Howard’s original story.

Issue#5 plot outline is simple; Conan rescues the damsel in distress, who is locked inside the tower, But the same time Truman makes it more appealing by adding more twists and turns to it which making this issue extremely entertaining, there was never a dull moment, Truman does a wonderful job balancing action a disposition throughout the issue, and Tomas Giorello’s art work is on point, the details of each panel drawing is beautiful, he illustrates each characters emotion to perfection.

Conan is determined to regain his kingdom, and he does so with a cunning approach, using the secret passage ways below the kingdom Conan silently makes his move and successful rescues Albiona. And with the help of the high priest Hadrathus they escape on harmed. Hadrathus then tells them that in order to destroy Xaltotun he must steal the gem Taracus took form Xaltotun’s tomb as he slept. The Issue ends with Taracus giving a mysterious hooded man orders to hunt down and kill Conan.

This is a perfect issue in my opinion, the story is complete and it makes sense. Like I said Truman balances everything well in this issue. And for that I can’t wait to see how this ends
