The wait is over, the system update and 3D Video are here on the 3DS in the December update!

It’s been mentioned a million times already but Nintendo finally has their system update available now. There are a few new features rolling out but the biggest is 3D video recording, stop-motion recording, the upgraded eShop and the StreetPass Mii Plaza.

For those wondering about Hulu Plus. No sign of it yet in the update notes the shop or on Hulu itself, what was one of the most anticipated updates is still missing from the 3DS.

Here are a few special notes on the upgrade:

3D Video is limited to 10 minute bursts, most likely a buffer limitation

The eShop now supports credit to add the funds required

Download now or Download later are available for purchases on the fly

Download queues are now able to work while the system is in sleep mode

Find Mii and Puzzle swap see new upgrades in StreetPass Mii Plaza

Nintendo Zone support is expanded to over 29,000 3DS Hotspots

Netflix requires a subscription still ($7.99 base)

There’s a lot of functionality here but I think most of the attention will be toward Hulu Plus missing the boat again on the 3DS. Only time will tell is Nintendo is content with just Netflix on board and their internal video service or if they’ll make that leap finally.

New name, same service, also plans for game delivery.

Netflix managed to enrage quite a few users with their most recent price adjustment, going from 7.99 to 9.99 to 15.98 a month. Today a mass advertisement masked as an apology was sent out to the masses, the point pushed Netflix needed to do such a thing to ensure their success in the market.

With that said, Qwikster plans to offer Blu-Ray discs, DVD’s and also video games in their service. If GameFly users should be concerned is unknown, with the site still under wraps it’s hard to say how solid of an alternative it will be. The plan is to roll out PS3, 360 and Wii games as primary formats. Pricing plans seem unknown at the time, the only notice is that just like Blu-Ray, gaming will have to be added onto the basic service itself. A downer for those who don’t have any desire to use the DVD system and an even bigger hit to PS3 owners who will end up having to pay for both to make the most of their systems.

Why am I critical about the email itself? Companies roll out new services all the time, they do so with detailed intent and plans to earn trust and build hype. Netflix decided to use old techniques often run in newspapers, an apology campaign to get users to tihnk about them in a new light. Instead of just bringing out the change as bluntly as they did the cost changes, they went in circles naming off the now bankrupt Borders and the dead age of AOL dial-up service to reinforce why they did what they did. It’s poor form and they’re pretending like the consumer is too foolish to know otherwise about them.

There are plenty of companies that look down on their consumers, I never thought Netflix would make it so blunt.

Today Netflix brings news of a new change, a deal to bring first run movies from Relativity Media to netflix subscribers for the first time.

Netflix on-demand grows with each day, bringing movies to the fingertips of the masses at large. From classics to hit television shows and newer movies the catalog has a bit of something for everyone. Today Netflix brings news of a new change, a deal to bring first run movies from Relativity Media to netflix subscribers for the first time.

The first wave covered by the new agreement includes “The Fighter” with Christian Bale, Mark Wahlberg and Amy Adams. The other is “Skyline” directed by the Brothers Strause. Unfortunately the release dates are still a bit off with both of them set to be ready in early 2011, “Season of the Witch” and “Movie 43″ by Peter Farley are also on the list but those will arrive toward the end of the year.

For those scratching their heads about Relativity, the company has worked with productions such as “Robin Hood” “Get Him to the Greek” and “Grown Ups”. With the group funding about 20-30 pictures each year it seems like viewers on Netflix will have some time to sit at home with friends and family to enjoy the debut.

The end of summer is coming upon us, but the folks at Microsoft are still running strong with their latest update to the NXE developments. Today avatars get a new look through brand styles and costumes from their favorite video games. Also players get a treat to games on demand which may or may not tease the interests, and indie game selections in a new category.

I would say check it out but pretty much everyone is going to be greeted with an upgrade page once they start up.

Personally I think they have a lot of cool ideas running about. $30 for Call of Duty 2 is just insane though and the avatar clothing prices are too much for what you get, if I’m buying a shirt for 240 points it better not look like they just down-scaled existing art and pasted it on the body of a blue shirt.

On Aug 11th, the update allows you to videos to your instant view queue from your 360. No more running to a PC to update your queue! As if that wasn’t enough, you can now watch your movies and shows with others over Xbox Live! marry me NetFlix!

Also with the update is the new Avatar marketplace functionality. There should be plenty of variety available to customize your mii…I mean, Xbox Live avatars.

The new game on demand feature will go live as well. There will be 30+ titles at launch and will include some heavy hitters like Mass Effect and BioShock.
