comiXology is a slow-growing giant in the comic marketplace, today they expand their reach just a bit more as they partner with Archaia to release digital first products and same day digital availability as print releases. Given the reach of comiXology across iOS, Android and the web it’s not surprising to see them still pushing on for those last key partners to their reach.
Part of this partnership will also reward comiXology fans with all-new material and unreleased content just for this digital experience. Some of the series coming to comiXology are included below.
Cursed Pirate Girl
The Dark Crystal
Tale of Sand
Exclusives coming up before print:
ComiXology isn’t the only group jumping for joy in this deal, Archaia is happy to enter the digital realm with such a wide user base to see their collection.
“We are dedicated to bringing our library of award-winning content into the digital forefront, and comiXology has proven the demand for digital content in the marketplace, providing readers with a simple and immediate means of accessing the latest graphic novel content. We’re excited to offer readers some of our hottest content weeks, and in some cases months, before it sees print.” Says PJ Bickett, CEO of Archaia.
If you’re eager to test it out get over to comiXology now, as of the opening of C2E2 today they’ve already begun rolling these additions out for the fans!
DC is hard at work shaping their brand, after The New 52 they had a new target, their own collectible shop and how they might be able to improve upon that. Today we see the fruits of that labor with DC Collectibles, the new brand will take over DC Direct and focus on expanding horizons for the publisher. In May DC Collectibles will work to expand the online store and offer its entire product line for sale on the web, it’ll be a huge welcome from individuals but shops may feel a little burned on the shift to allow total access but they’ll still be getting support from DC with their store locator system pointing fans who want to see items in person to their nearest shop for that item.
DC is taking all areas into account and striving to focus the service on the fans and keep delivering unique products that they love. They also recognize that fans do like exclusives though and so they’re keeping it interesting by bringing online exclusives into the picture as May will see two special items next month and custom prints for the web.
Flashpoint Action Figure Box Set (Exclusive #1) – Pictured in gallery
Emperor Aquaman (Previously unreleased)
$500 Wayne Casino Poker Chip
Heroes of the DC Universe (Exclusive #2) – Pictured in gallery
Blackest Night Green Lantern and Sinestro Bust
The prints will take themselves away from just comic artwork and expand into different themes as well, 20 images in total will be available online in thick archival paper print form. For those attending C2E2 this weekend there will be a chance to catch a look at the new store and special word on goodies coming to the shop later this year.
Capcom is still committed to try to crank out their top titles for everyone, today we get a dose of that as they announce the PC release date for Raccoon City on May 18th, 2012. The delay i s set to offer higher visual effects supported by PC hardware and of course 3D Vision support for total immersion in the game, hopefully that includes a bump in texture resolution as well so users get the fullest experience on the PC side. Multiplayer is also confirmed for the PC with 8 player team versus battles and 4 player campaign as well. No word on Games for Windows Live powering the online portion of the game just yet. Although given the track record it’s not out of the question.
Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City arrives for consoles on March 20th and on the PC on May 18th, check out the new Brutality Trailer for a taste of why you might want to be a part of this new adventure.
So you’re planning to download the Mass Effect 3 demo on XBL but you have no idea how you’ll get to play online… Well. Bioware and Microsoft have teamed up to solve that problem. Once you download the demo you’ll have a free limited run of Xbox Live Gold from then until the release of the game.
The question stands, will you be out celebrating Valentines day with that special someone or that special Xbox? I guess only time will tell, keep an eye on the market and load it up as soon as you can though because there will no doubt be a rush of downloads that day.
btw: that means you’ll be able to use that Gold Subscription for other games and features as well during the demo period
Mark March 20th on your calendars, Team NINJA is bringing Ninja Gaiden 3 to the PS3 and 360 in just a few months and they’re also packing some perks with the new release.
Pre-orders at GameStop and Amazon will get the treat of a special downloadable demo stage with two characters from Dead or Alive 5, players will get a chance to experience a shot at the new title before it launches later in 2012. Those who really want to step it up can also get the Collectors Edition which offers the same game perk and a game art book for Ninja Gaiden 3 called “Unmask”, a soundtrack CD and a “Duel of the Masked” figure not available anywhere else. The Collectors Edition is available at GameStop and EB Games only.
GameStop: Demo stage with Ryu vs Hitomi – $59.99
Amazon: Demo stage with Ayane and Hayate – $59.99
Collectors Edition: Demo stage with all 4 characters – $99.99
For those who have not heard any news of Ninja Gaiden 3, it was a big debut at E3 this year and takes players back into the control of Ryu as he takes on new challenges and gains a few twists to his arsenal. Changes include options of giving mercy or bringing vengeance upon all. The challenges of being a hero like Ryu will bring a new dimension to the game instead of just making it 100% hack and slash as you take on impossible situations.
If you’ve missed out on all the goodies so far, check out our gallery on the game and catch up a bit. We wont bug as you stare at the high detail shots.
With DCUO going free to play, many users have hopped on board for the adventure. Today the team is rewarding those who have joined the fight against evil with a special holiday bonus available this season title Seasons Greedings.
Larfleeze is on the warpath after Santa leaves him with not even a box of coal this year, he’s hiding holiday goods throughout Gotham City and Metropolis until he can ship them back to his home territory. Players must quest to find the stolen goods and team up with Hal Jordan to set this season right again, even Sinestro will get in on the madness surrounding the Lanterns this time around.
The full change log is here
Game Update 7: Season’s Greedings Features:
Larfleeze Sightings: Players can receive a Feat if they can spotLarfleeze lurking about Metropolis or Gotham City once a day for, of course, 12 days in a row.
Watchtower PVP Map: Players can battle it out in a new 5v5 death-match arena located in the Watchtower.
New Holiday Marketplace Items:
Festive Winter Hat – Do you have a jolly side? Have you been wanting to show off your festive spirit? Does your head get cold in that brisk winter air? If so, then this Festive Winter Hat is for you!
Reindeer Antlers – Oh, deer! Declare your appreciation for these beloved holiday animals by wearing your very own set of Reindeer Antlers.
New Holiday Vendor Items:
Holiday weapon appearances to give your weapon a sweet new look
New Holiday Elf outfit set
Snowman form trinket
Holiday snowglobe grenade
The update is already live and free for all levels of players in DCUO, I would suggest getting started now while everyone else is ready to team up to find those goods. Sit it out too long and others might be tired of running through to find all those items.
Many games this year have turned from P2P models into F2P, in the past week we’ve seen 2 new titles join the mix and offer up free access or at least limited access to the players.
Lineage II is first up with their Truly Free model that they’ll be introducing. Along with that, they plan to release another major update titled, The Goddess of Destruction. All characters, classes and such will be accessible and the supplement to keep the economy of the game flowing will be based on a web shop for items and special additions. They also plan to introduce some booster incentives to allow new players to level up fast and get up to speed with the existing user base. Keep an eye out for this update as it’s slated to drop later this year.
DC Universe Online is an unexpected addition to this field, a newcomer that struggled after the SOE breach earlier this year that was trying to get some ground in the market. DC Universe Online is accessible right now for free with the option to upgrade to 2 different tiers if players desire more character slots, inventory space, any auction space, bank slots, chat, mail or more cash room. It’s probably a bit more hardcore than many would expect especially when I just introduced Lineage II above this. Check out the full sheet and give the game a spin if you’re eager for action right now.
Not only will it be free to download but free to play! After seven years and 20 updates, the MMO will now come in a few new flavors. Here is the breakdown.
There are 3 levels of player status free, premium and VIP.
Free is the basics, Less archetypes, no super groups, no mail, limited chat options and limited auction house functionality.
Premium is any existing players that move over to free. Essentially if you have subscribed before, you get a reward for doing so. You get more chat options, more archetypes, mail use and can join super groups.
VIP is where the mythical expendable income players hang. You pay the fee monthly, you get all the goods. All types, full auction house and form super groups.
Currently it is implied that you can go from premium or free to a VIP and back to premium, unlike other super powered MMO’s that offer free play.
No specific date is yet, just later this year as a launch window for City of Heroes Freedom.
Not one to keep people waiting, Dr. Crane is here to guide the lost souls in DC Universe online into their greatest fears as we approach Halloween. While the game has been delayed into 2011 the teasers do seem to indicate the wait will be well worth it as characters are added and the game world is polished up with extra tweaks.
Check out the statement and pictures below:
Jonathan Crane was a skinny, awkward kid who got bullied often because he reminded people of Ichabod Crane, from the Legend of Sleepy Hollow. As he grew older, Crane became obsessed with the essence of fear, hopefully in an effort to conquer his own phobias. This obsession put him on the academic fast track at Gotham University.
But Crane sabotaged his career by using his students as unwilling subjects in his dangerous fear-based experiments. He was dismissed from the university by the board of regents for his unorthodox methods. In an act of revenge, Crane put his knowledge of fear to work, creating a fear gas, dressing himself in straw and sackcloth and adopting the guise of The Scarecrow.
His quest to heighten and instill fear in Gotham has often run afoul of Batman, attempting to root out any anxiety or phobia that would bring him down. But Batman has faced him down countless times and in the process, Crane has become victim to an ironic type of fear, chiropteraphobia…
…Fear of bats.
For many gamers, online subscriptions are a luxury that often face the first stage of budget cuts, taking this into account Cryptic Studios has jumped forward with a Free-to-Play initiative with Champions Online to help maintain and possibly grow their population as a whole.
Here are some quotes from the team on their latest move.
Beginning Q1 2011, Champions Online will offer a free-to-play gameplay option. Everyone can download, play and enjoy Champions Online at absolutely no cost!
All you’ll need to do is download the game and begin playing. It will be a great opportunity to head back to the Champions universe to see what’s changed, spend time with your friends and enjoy a top-tier MMO without spending a dime.
We plan on entering our free-to-play beta on November 9, and to launch the new, free-to-play version of Champions Online in the first quarter of 2011. We can’t wait to grow the game with you, and we hope you’re as excited as we are!
Having participated in the beta I can say I was tempted to pursue Champions Online but I never had enough free time to commit to a subscription for the game. With a free gaming model I can see myself jumping into the game for casual fights and character creation. Hopefully I will not be the only one taking advantage of this shift.
