The Phoenix Force is coming and everyone is gearing up, for Wolverine this means sucking up the past and doing his best to stop the damage he saw before from ever coming up again. As the story kicks off, Wolverine is happily recovering with Beast after their injuries over the past issues, unfortunately it’s all cancelled out as a signal comes in that Beast hoped to never hear from again. When it hits they move into action and prepare themselves and the headmasters of the school for their darkest hours to come.
The issue itself is an improvement on the back story we’ve seen lately, it goes into the timeline of AvX instead of weeks or months before the whole thing boiled down. Captain America is recruiting people to join his force to approach the X-Men to take Hope away and Wolverine and Beast are called into action by Cap. It’s still prequel material but it moves fast enough that by the end of the issue we’re into present day AvX storyline and it doesnt’ feel like a rush job at all, in fact it gives heavy insight into how the Phoenix Force impacts all the of new mutant generation as well.
The Phoenix is a mysterious power but what ties does it have to all of these new mutants, why are they reacting so strongly to the energy even so far away? There’s a lot of questions opening up in these side stories and Wolverine and the X-Men #9 has some of the most interesting bits so far, even going so far as to introduce an old acquaintance to the fold in the form of the Shi’ar who is quite familiar with the X-Men. It’s all on the line now and readers will just have to wait until the next installments roll out to see how this first impact in space goes down for Beast, Thor and others in the Secret Avengers.
Marvel is cranking out important news for C2E2 this weekend, one of many announcements surrounds Sabretooth the lifetime nemesis who has plagued Wolverine for a lifetime. Loeb and Bianchi are back to spin their story from “Evolution” in Wolverine #310 and bring life back to one of the most classic villains Logan has known.
Check out the two covers below for a look at the upcoming saga.
With recent changes hitting the Marvel Digital Store it’s likely they’ll have to adjust these announcements to reflect the super store they’ve created. Until then these are the new releases to the comics app on Android and iOS. Get your fill of Avengers books and classics from Thor.

Marvel has been on a string of animated shorts about AvX, today marks the final installment of the What The–?! series and it’s a big one that goes out with a bang. Wolverine took to revenge against Captain America and Cyclops while he mourned Jean’s passing in a series of pranks, the outcome was unexpected to say the least and everyone soon got pulled into the mess.
Check out the video below for a look, keep an eye on Bamfas for updates as we review AvX and related side stories as well.
Marvel has quite a history with comics, today they’re sharing a bit of that history in a new way thanks to a partnership with Performance Designed Products. Their new clip cases for the iPhone 4 deliver a bit of protection to your phone and also some amazing comic art that has helped push Marvel into the hearts of fans all over.
The current line:
Venom – Lethal Protector #1 (Mark Bagley)
Amazing Fantasy #15 – Spider-Man (Steve Ditko)
Wolverine #1 (Frank Miller)
Invincible Iron Man #1 (Gene Colan and Mike Esposito)
The Incredible Hulk – Eve of Annihilation #116 (Herb Trimpe and Dan Adkins)
Journey into Mystery – The Grandeur and the Glory #124 (Vince Colletta)
Unfortunately these are isolated to the iPhone 4 right now, hopefully Marvel can help bring these to other phone models in the future too. Kind of a shame to see sweet work like this isolated to just a small pool.
Check out the gallery below for larger shots on all the current models.
First Cyclops and Captain America teased Wolverine as he reminisced about Jean being lost to the Phoenix. Today we see an angry Wolverine work on the payback he’s been working on to get back at these two for playing with his mind. The war is on and you’ll see it in the clip below.
Expect the best refrigerator joke ever from Wolverine and an inspiring voice acting moment from Gambit. Damn you Marvel for making such amazing things with figures.
So you were really wondering how Avengers vs X-Men started? Well don’t worry, Marvel has found a creative way using action figures to sum up how this all started up and to hint at the untold damage to come when Captain America impersonates Jean Grey.
I know, it’s a mess, just check out the video and you’ll see. It’s action figure magic combined with hardcore drama.
Marvel certainly has their hands full with AvX, the company announced that they’ve run out of copies of #0 to Diamond but there will likely be retail chains still holding onto a small pool of them still. As a result Marvel is going back into printing and putting out a new variant second edition to help cater to fans eager to catch how this new saga is going to kick off. Given the issue helps elaborate on The Scarlet Witch and Hope Summers leading into this it’s no surprise that everyone is grabbing it.
Frank Cho is heading up the cover for the second print variant, hopefully this one lasts a little longer than a day otherwise Marvel will really be in trouble with the fans. Honestly while I like the current issue 0 cover I really want that variant because it looks awesome. This is going to be a hard series to follow if the art keeps to this level of temptation in each issue. Check out the full size image to the right for a better look.
Today Gentle Giant announced a new poly-stone Marvel Wolverine 7” mini-bust that will be available in fall 2012. Highly detailed and hand numbered, the bust comes with a $70 price tag and a limited run. As with all Gentle Giant pieces this one looks to be an awesome addition to your X-Men/Marvel collection!
Free Focus returns this week hitting out some items from last week and some fresh goods to keep everyone going. We have the list below for you to enjoy although many of these don’t seem to be following any specific pattern this week. Check out Marvel Comics Unlimited to get these and more.
Some of these issues aren’t out yet, I’ve marked them with an * in the meantime I’ve linked to their profiles so you don’t have to search for them.
