Bamfas brings you the WonderCon 2012 Exclusives List!

WonderCon is just around the corner, March 16th-18th, and that means information about convention exclusives are (slowly) being released.  I expect that there may be a couple more coming but for right now this seems to be all there is.  I will continue to scour the interwebs in hopes of finding out some more details and will hopefully have more to report, so check back often!

The Super 7 booth (#369) will be setting up shop with a super cute WonderCon exclusive.  The limited,  $25 Strawberry Caramel Delight Foster is an adorable cannibalistic cookie, with a happy face and a blasé attitude ready to make his way into your home!  No info has been given on just how limited the run is but I think it’s safe to say that there aren’t too many of these guys so get there early.

ARTFX+ is offering the Kotobukiya (#563) Star Wars Shock Trooper 2-pack.  This set is limited to 1000 pieces and is available for pre-order here http://www.shopafx.com/afxexstwasht.html for $84.99.  It’s safe to say that all Kotobukiya statues are always top-notch and fans will not be disappointed with this one.  The set comes with multiple leg and arm accessories allowing for a ton of different poses and set-ups, with one of the nicest features being that the figures have magnets in their feet to allow for easy posing!

Smoke and Mirror fans rejoice, there will be a WonderCon exclusive cover available at the IDW booth (#301) and cost $5.  Also at IDW will be John Romita’s Amazing Spider-Man exclusive hardcover, signed by both Romita and Stan Lee! If that isn’t enough there is also a sketch by Romita, while not cheap, $250, this is definitely a real collectors piece.  Another not-so-cheap exclusive is the Wally Wood’s EC Stories Artist’s Edition variant hardcover, which will set you back $150!  IDW is offering some more affordable exclusives like the Locke & Key: Guide To Known Keys variant cover at a mere $5 and the Locke & Key Volume 4: Keys To The Kingdom variant cover for $25.  They will also have limited supplies of previous exclusives from past conventions.

For the vinyl junkies out there, head on over to the Kuso Vinyl booth (#287) and pick up the Dragon King “Enter the Dragon” edition by kaNO.  This is a very limited run of only 250 pieces and will set you back $65.  If that isn’t enough, kaNO will be at the booth on Saturday from 2 p.m.-3 p.m. no doubt signing the brand new shiny figure you just bought!

To commemorate your trip to WonderCon and the con’s first ever trip to Anaheim run over to the Graphitti Designs booth (#601) and grab the official WonderCon 2012 shirt.  Ryan Sook designed the awesome t-shirt that features Batman, Superman and Wonder Woman.

Celebrating Star Wars Episode 1: The Phantom Menace 3D release, Gentle Giant (#357) has decided to offer a very unique exclusive, Yoda with 3D glasses mini bust. Yeah, you read that right! Yoda, chomping on popcorn, wearing old school 3D glasses, which are removable, but really why would you?  These busts are limited, however the run is unknown as is the price.  These are sure to move fast if for no other reason then the novelty of the piece. If you are a Premier Guild Member you can pre-order the bust now.

While not an official WonderCon exclusive, Frombie (#285) is offering a piece that is VERY limited.  “Artifact Zora”, an all gold-colored, 6” vinyl figure is limited to just 10 pieces worldwide.  Each figure is signed and numbered and is sure to disappear very quickly.  Also to be offered at the booth is a Frombie and an Esc-Toy’s collaboration.   A very limited (12! pieces) Chelly Chainsaw X Zora Kage colorway con exclusive.  Each hand-painted resin figure will be gone before you have a chance to say  “Chelly Chainsaw X Zora kage colorway exclusive please.”  There will also be two limited Chelly X Zora postesr to commemorate the above piece being offered.  Pictures and more details (hopefully) to follow.  Lastly, at the Frombie booth artist Erick Scarecrow will be signing from 2p.m.-3p.m. on both Friday AND Saturday!

Next is Fathom #5, with WonderCon exclusive cover by Michael Turner and Peter Steigerwald, this issue is extremely limited at 500 copies.  Aspen is also releasing an exclusive for their new miniseries, Fathom: Kiani.  The issue will be #0 and feature a cover by Joe Benitez and Peter Steigerwald and is limited to only 500.   I think it’s safe to say these guys have been really busy working on some super cool goodies for us and none of these will last very long!

The super awesome, super limited Morksta edition Mork figure by MAD and Pobber Toys will be available at the De Korner booth (#390). There will only be 50 of these guys and they will cost $85, but they are super cool and so totally worth it. With only 50 available it would be wise to head over there early if you want to make sure you get one.

Next up is a really cool print called “Creature”, an homage to The Creature From The Black Lagoon and limited to only 54 pieces, a tribute to the films 1954 release. At only $10(!), this one is a must!

Although not an exclusive, there will be a cool 4 print series of the Universal Classic Monsters. These prints measure 5” x 7”, are not part of a limited run and are available either individually ($10) or as a set ($35). Alex Pardee will be at the booth signing on Saturday from 2 p.m.-4p.m. and Sunday from 1 p.m. To 3 p.m. So make sure you stop by and say hi!

As a long time X-Men fan there is a natural tendency to forgive story lines that might have been unfinished or clumsily concluded. Most often it is simply that a new writer is coming on board and the main plot points need to be tied up. Sometimes this can cause confusion or just a general wtfness. This is a list of some story lines and plots that were either confusing, poorly explained or just plain pervy.

Ahab was originally supposed to be Cable from the future.

I’m actually not related to Cyclops.

Ahab was introduced in the “Days of the Future Present” crossover between the X-Men, X-Factor, The Fantastic Four and the New Mutants. He was responsible for creating the hounds that tracked down mutants for the Sentinels. His first and most useful hound was Rachel summers. On a side wtf, Rachel is Cyclops and Jean’s daughter from an alternate future. Ahab was just a normal time traveler, not an inter-dimensional one. Not sure how it would be explained that he was cable with that plot hurdle.
The plot got as far as an exchange during a fight between cable and Ahab. During the battle, they are face to face when Ahab asks Cable, “What’s the matter? See someone you know?”

This would have led to a strange reality that meant Cable was destined to be a supremely evil bastard who not only helped the Sentinels track and kill mutants but mentally destroyed his sister to force her into helping him do it by making her the first hound.
It worked out for the best that he become Cyclops and Madelyne Pryor’s son, Nathan and getting infected with the techno-organic virus. This lead to Stryfe and baby Nathan being sent to the future. Plus, X-stories are always better when life is kicking Cyclops in the nuts anyway.

Wolverine and Sabretooth are not related!!

What resemblance?

Although the original plan was for a papa Sabretooth and Wolvie Jr story line, it just isn’t so. This was an ongoing plot point for a while. It was later disproved  out right with a blood test done by SHIELD  in Wolverine #42 that found there to be no relation whatsoever. In the X-men origins: Wolverine movie, they are supposed to be brothers or half brothers but the film was more or less a big steamer. So the official story is, no relation.

Speaking of big steamers…

Ultimate X-Men

Yup, seriously

The idea was interesting at first, it was tough for new readers to be  current on 40 or so years of X-history. A reboot would be a nice way to bring people in.

The main problem is that these new stories bled into the movies. Here is where the wtf starts. First…

Juggernaut is not a mutant!!

In the Ultimate series it seemed like just about everyone was in the weapon X program. You had the usual’s like Wolverine and Sabretooth but also Rogue, Jugs and Night crawler at one time or another. Also, the experiments done to Wolverine are what caused the X gene. Yeah, really.

Everyone remembers how hot Rogue was in the green and yellow. So where did this goth chick  also named Rogue come from? Yup, another ultimate “contribution.” Oh and Wolverine is also Cable. wah wah wah

Professor X wanted to bang Jean Grey

Run Marvel Girl!!

The idea wasn’t abandoned but thank god it wasn’t every entirely explored! In the monologue the Prof has, he says being the leader of the X-Men and being in the wheelchair are what is holding him back from sharing his feelings.  Well its a shame that only those things are holding him back. Good thing her being a  teenager and him being in his 40’s wasn’t one of his hang ups. She couldn’t have been older than 16 or 17 at the time and it was revealed later that he had actually been tutoring her privately for years prior to her joining the X-Men. Pedo… I mean, Prof X didn’t have to worry about Magneto. He should have been on the lookout for Chris Hansen.

There are many other head scratchers so let us know your favorites below!

Marvel hates what you hate! Crappy games!

Marvel seems to be tightening up their belt a lot this year, reducing interest in movie adaptations, rebooting existing properties and now taking a step back in the gaming realm by doing QA on the games that arrive to market. The quote from Ira Rubenstein was “Actually, wait … we are not doing crappy movie-based games anymore. You can quote me on that.”

Word is that Marvel has been actively watching over Iron Man 2 for development and hopes to raise the bar to levels like with Wolverine, maybe in less of a movie tie-in capacity but still to that action and damage factor. Iron Man for the consoles and pc ended up being a complete nightmare, having a polished horrible handling title for the 360 and PS3 and a PS2 port for the Wii and PC was a complete nightmare that went completely unexplained especially when it came to packaging.

Hopefully Marvel does turn it around, it would be nice to get Super Hero based games that don’t make me want to throw the disc into a fire pit. If we’ll ever get a dedicated BAMFAS review for one is another story, I think our Marvel fan blood might keep us out of the running for now.

15 years too late for me.

I stumbled across the greatest team up in documented history. Pb and J are blown out of the water by This completely awesome pairing.

Of course I am talking about Hasbro and Marvel.

Anyone born in the 80’s was raised on a steady diet of ghost busters, transformers and GI Joe. Of the three, GI Joe by far had the most action pose potential. Marvel toys were never the most agile of figures. They moved like they had all four limbs in a cast. And then over starched their undies.
For years kids just used the Joes and pretended they were comic heroes.

Hasbro had the GI Joe license and the Marvel line was handled by Toy Biz. Hasbro had the superior play quality and Toy biz had the detail…  but it was like playing with a detailed block of wood.

Action figure collector’s prayers have been answered. Hasbro unveiled it’s Marvel Universe line of figures.

Go web go!

Look at that maneuverability!

The first wave includes:
*Black Panther
* Bullseye
* Daredevil
* Human Torch
* Translucent Burning Human Torch
* Extremsis Iron Man
* Stealth Iron-Man
* The Punisher V1
* Silver Surfer
* Classic Spider-Man
* Wolverine (X-Force)

Iron-man and snake eyes? Cobra might as well pack it in.
Iron-man and snake eyes? Cobra might as well pack it in.

That is a very nice first wave to start your collection. Finally Iron-Man can take down cobra!
